He would be in America's brain trust, if we had one, and .... I hope reading Gore Vidal bashing the USA resonates with you as well as it did with me. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/johann-hari/obama-is-incompetent-and_b_311796.html

1 month 3 weeks ago • 292 viewsI think it was with the advent of Sift 4.0 that this nasty *quality function was added, and since then it's done nothing but clog up my front page with years-old videos. What is this, a retirement home for youtube? There already exists *promote along with a big old box at the top of the page, why was an alternative needed? And for the record, if I select to sort by "newness"... the first five videos that greet me range in age from one to four months. That speaks for itself.

1 month 4 weeks ago • 749 views Most of you may know Gwiz as the level headed guy who runs the Talks channel around here. He likes Elliot Smith, Cat Stevens, and dirty women (in that order). I know him as one of the few people I can count on to not be idle in the siftlounge :-D And today friends Gwiz has earned himself a Diamond for his 500 star points. That's a big achievement for anyone who actually enjoys The Venture brothers!!! Keep it up and stick around!! You're one of my favorite people here so I wanted to show off some of my own shitty photoshop skillz. For the rest of you sifters; do yourself a favor and take a look at what he's sifted so far (there aint much left in that PQ) http://www.videosift.com/member/gwiz665

3 months 2 weeks ago • 400 viewsI have been thinking of this long and hard. Since my last post Atheism WTF? To me many things were put into perspective for me though didn't change that i believe in something that can't be expained but i have another question regarding the fake man in the sky. For all those that believe that God could be nothing but a figment of your imagination or an illusion of humanity. Then how do you explain Love? Is love nothing more the eating alot of chocolate or a chemical imbalance in the brain? We all know love unless you are a mass murder or sociopathy. I would figure that most of you have family or wife/husband and they love you if this is so then why or how? Why does Love even exist?

I've noticed how a person's avatar can sometimes influence the way I interact with them online--not just here on the Sift, but anywhere online where avatars are allowed. ... more inside ...

5 months 3 weeks ago • 398 viewsI'd like to know, for myself and others, what are the most effective ways to use tags on VideoSift? Originally, I used capital letters and was precise. Now I use the title and incorporate lower-casing. So, what is the lowdown? The meager information contained in FAQ follows: What HTML tags are allowed in comments? The following HTML tags are allowed in everyone's comments: a, i, em, b, strong, blockquote, u, br, small, sup, sub, strike, s, ol, ul, li, code, kbd, tt, p In addition any full URL (beginning with "http://") in comments are automatically converted into a hyperlink and any newlines will be saved.

6 months ago • 749 viewsHaving recently been introduced to the concept of "Rush Limbaugh" and after watching a few videos of cocksure nonsense I got around to doing a bit of research on him tonight. I read only one page and decided I knew all I needed to know. This is taken verbatim from the About section for his radio show: The Rush Limbaugh Show is the most listened to radio talk show in America, broadcast on over 600 radio stations nationwide. It is hosted by America's Anchorman, Rush Limbaugh, also known as: America's Truth Detector; the Doctor of Democracy; the Most Dangerous Man in America; the All-Knowing, All-Sensing, All-Everything Maha Rushie; defender of motherhood, protector of fatherhood and an all-around good guy. There is a "consensus" among the American people, who have made this the most listened to program, that it is also the most accurate, most right, and most correct. People who disagree with this are Rush Deniers. I think that second paragraph is the most disgusting piece of vanity I've ever read. I really don't think that that someone that believes everything he says is utter truth should be allowed to portray his views so widely. It sounds like he believes he has so much of the American public behind him that the rest are insignificant and that ain't healthy.

6 months ago • 356 viewsI am pleased to announce that the Talks channel will not be changing management in any near future. There will be no changes during this stationary period. I've been proud to hold the channel for so long, but now I think it's time to pass it on to me. I'm happy to have been selected by me to succeed me in this noble task and hope you will join me in making talks the best channel it can be.

6 months 2 weeks ago • 848 viewsSo this question has been brewing in my head for awhile now and watching this video http://www.videosift.com/video/A-Jew-Christian-and-Muslim-were-walking-through-a-desert I decided to vent or ask the question. What the fuck sift? I don't mean this in the i am pissed i want to smash this jim beam bottle over your head but more like your my best friend that just fucked my ex that is a whore; now lets go get a beer. I myself am an agnostic in my belief structure. Though it seems to me that Atheism runs free range all over this site and i am not against that. I believe in the free exchange of ideas. It leaves me to just wonder WTF? and am i the only person that has any belief?

7 months 1 week ago • 1446 viewsI like a broad range of stuff, and I like to be true to the things I like, however, the sift doesn’t always allow for that. The sifts I find come in two varieties: 1). Things I like a lot and mean something to me personally, whether through historical influence on my life or because it just fits with my ideals. 2). Things that will sift, and will gain me lots-o-points!
Now, I’ve found I am often rocked between the two. I like certain things, and the things I like all fit into a certain dichotomy of my life. Since I started posting, I’ve found stuff or gone looking for things that I really never took the time to explore on the internet …things that pertained to me; personal stuff, like ideas that helped define me as I grew up. Videos that I would place high on my list and give an instant vote if I saw them come from someone else. The conundrum hits me when I start to consider what gets the votes. The flipside to personally interesting stuff, are often fluff comedy or epiphanies of shock value (like MythBusters blowing up a car – cool but in the end, fluff.) We like to get sifted, We like to climb the ranks and the carrots that dangle in front of us in the form of star power keep us looking for that almighty PowerVideo that will bring us into the mighty ‘top 15’ or better yet, ‘number one’ place, rocketing our status in front of our peers and climbing the ladder of success. I do see certain people in here being true to themselves and sifting for the love of what they sift but their pqueue’s are ripe with unsifted videos which appeal to a select few, forever languishing in inactivity. I myself, find myself discarding some of what I felt, were my best finds (though some were crap). No votes means I might as well discard, right? Our jobs here seem to be to find the Gems out there, compile them for everyone to judge and toss out the irrelevant. But in the end, it isn’t always weather the videos we find are good, It’s weather the videos we find “get seen by the right people”. And that isn’t always so easy. We have to peak people’s interest first, almost trick them into watching. My recent posts on Billy Idol may not sift – but they deserve to.
The sift is “Fickle!” So in the end, do we discard or hold onto those Pqueued Gems? Do we sacrifice our good posts to make room for the “Fluff?” Do we stay true to ourselves and bypass the fluff posts? Do we whore ourselves out and sift the fluff just so we can get points? What do you do? What will you do?

That being said, if this is the wrong place to post this, feel free to berate me. Anybody else from DC?

8 months ago • 472 viewsAs many have heard, there is a strange injustice happening to videos everywhere. Apparently videos are being imprisoned unfairly as most of them are innocent and are active contributors to society. Inside sources are comparing the travesty to the likes of “Guantánamo Bay” and Auschwitz. Many of these videos long to be free to again live in harmony beside their friends and family in on-line communities and channels again. Please help release these videos from what experts are now calling “Siftánamo.” A place so dire, that the longer they are in there, the less likely they will ever see the light of day again! These poor videos have been grouped into individual Cells now being called PQueues, A barbaric term that many videos will remember for the rest of their lives. Each queue is individually named in order to keep them secret. Help us name them all so we can identify these prisons and free as many of these poor videos as possible. Here is the one I have found, I’m sure that everyone here can name at least one of these deadly prisons. So Sifters unite and stand up and help release these videos from the dreaded PQueue. (List your PQueues below) http://www.videosift.com/member/Sagemind/pqueued

Note: 1).Everyone has a different title, (Which we all do to get attention) 2). the tags seem to be where the problem lays. Have a look and discuss this. 9 months ago • 317 viewsFor now we've only been able to call *quality once per a single Sift Talk post. Recently, however Siftbot comment on blankfist's congratulatory post made me think the rules had been suddenly changed, so I tried to call double *quality on alien_concept's idea of sharing underrated-Sifts to no avail. ... more inside ...

9 months ago • 474 viewsBasically the title says it all. What you have to do is pick one video from your sifted and one from your personal queue and link it up here. Of course if you're a probie then you can just use two from your PQ or if you're one of those oddbods who has no such thing as a personal queue then two from your sifted. Or one. Or you know, none if you can't be bothered... The only rule is that each vid you link up must be from different channels. When you show and tell your vids, you can include such things as points you think people have missed, why you submitted it, what you love/hate about it, your favourite or worst comments and any highlights you'd want people to appreciate with you. Sometimes we just need stuff spelt out for us. Go Go Go!! *encouraging sift whoring since 2008*

9 months 1 week ago • 720 viewsI've taken exactly two courses of economics, one on Microeconomics, and the other on Macroeconomics. I understand a lot of the basic economic terms, but there's one thing I see conservatives saying all the time that doesn't sit right with me: Government cannot create wealth, only redistribute (or destroy) it. When I look for someone explaining why, the answer always is the same: all the government wealth is taken from the wealth people already had. Okay, I give. What is wealth, and why can't government create more of it, when kids with a lemonade stand can?
