Sift and Tell
Basically the title says it all. What you have to do is pick one video from your sifted and one from your personal queue and link it up here. Of course if you're a probie then you can just use two from your PQ or if you're one of those oddbods who has no such thing as a personal queue then two from your sifted. Or one. Or you know, none if you can't be bothered...
The only rule is that each vid you link up must be from different channels.
When you show and tell your vids, you can include such things as points you think people have missed, why you submitted it, what you love/hate about it, your favourite or worst comments and any highlights you'd want people to appreciate with you. Sometimes we just need stuff spelt out for us.

This http://www.videosift.com/video/Reconstructing-a-famous-photograph-40-years-later is possibly my favourite. I've always loved the photo of Dylan and the kids in Liverpool (1966) and one day I was searching for it on google as I couldn't find it on my hard drive. One of the things that came up was this vid that I had never seen or heard of. Enjoy!
My PQ is rather small, but here's a gem: http://www.videosift.com/video/Travelling-Wilburys-Inside-Out . It's from the second Travelling Wilburys album (jokingly titled "Volume 3"). Super groups often fail, but when you've got George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne (Roy Orbison unfortunatly died right after the first album was released) it's gonna turn out great.
Great idea, AC
I'm just going to pimp this one, because it still makes me laugh to this day:
Not like it's not obvious, but why how who when KP
sifted: http://talks.videosift.com/video/First
i still watch this when i need to chuckle and it makes me laugh til i cry nearly every time. the fact that he nearly laughs at one point just makes it more spectacular, plus the slow-mo "fiiiiiiirst" at the end. everyone who's ever used the intertubes will be able to relate to it. genius.
pqueue: http://talks.videosift.com/video/Can-We-Make-A-Star-On-Earth-Presented-by-Prof-Brian-Cox
it's presented by brian cox, one of the most enigmatic physicists i've ever seen (not that i study physicists) and it's about incredible machines. fucking love it. it should be top 15, let alone sifted.
I have a power point. You have a Sift Talk post. Let's *quality this shit.
Awarding alien_concept with one star point for this contribution to Sift Talk - declared quality by blankfist.
Sifted:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Steven-Jones-Pipes-In-About-9-11
I like polarizing vids that prompt a long discussion. This one has 30-some-odd comments featuring all the usual suspects. It's interesting to see how very upset people get when questions are asked. Notice that no one ever once says that the government is/was behind 9/11. But that's the very first thing detractors accuse those asking questions of doing. Personally, I think there's always room for skepticism. Even the moon-landing-hoax and 2012-doomsday nuts are providing something of a service. So pipe down and have a cup of tea already! And goddamnit, learn how to address the actual points raised! Don't go making shit up!
PQ:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Your-Girlfriend-s-Name-is-Ralph
Simply because I love how cro-magnon 'Ralph' looks.
Sifted: http://www.videosift.com/video/What-do-teachers-make
When I was in high school there were many science and math teachers leaving to pursue higher paying jobs in the tech industry. I found that situation to be rather sad. Taylor Mali's love of teaching has always given me goosebumps.
pqueue: http://www.videosift.com/video/Earth-Story-Ring-of-Fire
Ive always been fascinated by tectonic plates, volcanoes, earthquakes, and geology in general.
sifted: http://www.videosift.com/video/assisted-suicide-of-motorneuronedisease-patient-Craig-Ewert one of the very very few non-music videos i sifted, a sad story but important to think about.
pqueue: http://www.videosift.com/video/Haile-Gebreselassie-s-2008-Berlin-Marathon-World-Record there are too many music vids in my pqueue to choose one. so ill go with this, haile gebreselassie winning the berlin marathon in (yet another!) world record. i ran a couple marathons myself and by doing that got even more respect for this man doing it in just over 2 hours. it's great to see him run, the commentators are japanese which also gives this vid a certain charm.
I seem to be mostly outside the mainstream of the sift, so I submit a lot of things that get few or even no votes, and others that languish until someone notices them and then they become kinda popular.
This is one of the ones that meant a lot to me and not to others: http://www.videosift.com/video/Somebodys-Mom (my guess is that most sifters haven't been through infertility anxiety).
For the sifted, this one made me soar: http://www.videosift.com/video/Music-as-a-Roller-Coaster-Zurich-Chamber-Orchestra .
Nice idea, AC. I've enjoyed looking at the other submissions--only some of which I had noted before.
I'm going to have to wait until I get home before I can watch all of these, but for now...
Sifted: http://www.videosift.com/video/Top-Gear-Communist-Cars
Because Top Gear is awesome. And watching experienced drivers critiquing absolutely horrible cars is hilarious.
PQueued: http://www.videosift.com/video/Mountain-of-Faith-Extra-Stage-1
This was a tough choice, since I like all of my PQueued videos, but for different reasons. At the end of the day though, I'm a hardcore gamer, and I love watching videos of high level play. Touhou games are especially interesting since not only are superplay runs technically impressive, but the bullet patterns are designed to create a sort of deadly beauty onscreen -- It's very satisfying to watch.
From my pq this is the one i'm most in love with right now, like paul4dirt there are far too many music vids I adore to choose one, so I went for:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Ben-Kingsley-as-Don-Logan-for-Live-Aid
I love it because it's making some of the best use of a character i've ever seen to promote a worthy cause, and also because I think the film (Sexy Beast) is immense and underrated and it shows just how versatile an actor Kingsley is.
Hard choice, I have so many movie clips I love in my sifted but by my own wanky rules I can't do both in the cinema channel In the end I had to go for this:
http://www.videosift.com/video/If-I-Were-Gay-Mike-And-Tim-Spaced
It's easily one of the best television programmes ever made and I adore the relationship between Tim and Mike. Also i'm deeply in love with the work of Stephen Lynch and I think that this comedy song by him lends itself perfectly to these clips
Many candidates, for this moment I select just these 2:
PQed music video:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Antariksh-by-Rahul-Sharma-flashy-Indian-electronica-clip
I found this a very refreshing clip, both visually and musically..
Sifted shortfilm:
http://www.videosift.com/video/E-by-Bretislav-Pojar-1981
Very straightforward tragicomical clip about people's mindsets being altered by their surroundings.
Sifted music video:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Dinosau-Derr-Lady
Because it makes you so damn happy! It's a cute little tune that flows over with happy vibes and charmingly naïve life philosophy. The music video is a funny low-budget animation, and underscores the themes of the music in a brilliant way. Besides, it was the first video I ever posted, back in my probie days, and I had a hell of a time trying to get it sifted. I therefore have a special connection to it, and I get a little surprised every time I realize it actually is in my sifted list.
Pqueued shortfilm:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Ninjai-The-Little-Ninja-ep1
The flash animation series Ninjai is really a gem on the internet. It pushes boundaries for flash animation as an art form. It is brutal and beatiful at the same time, with both gory action sequences and stunningly gorgeous camera angles. This first episode sets the tone perfectly for the rest of the series.
It was lot harder to pick one sifted and one pqueued video than I thought it would be. And I wasn't even trying to pick any favorites (which these are not), just a couple I thought worthy of mention. I decided to go with a theme - obscure and great animation videos that didn't get nearly enough attention.
Sifted: http://www.videosift.com/video/La-Faim-Hunger
A very cool animation about gluttony, from the National Film Board of Canada.
PQueued: http://www.videosift.com/video/Crow-Moon
I can't think of anything to write about this except that I love it and you all should watch it.
*promote and be sure to take the time to check people's stuff out guys!
Self promoting this Sift Talk post - promote requested by original submitter alien_concept.
I genuinely believe my http://www.videosift.com/video/Mothers-Milk is one of the finest pieces of unintentional TV comedy on the Sift.
As for the unsifted, I thought my recent http://www.videosift.com/video/Warner-Bros-Response-to-Christian-Bale-Tirade would shoot straight through the queue. Guess it didn't because of all the *bleeps* on f-bombs
And did I get this right, we can now each give a single *quality for a sift talk post? Cause this is a really great idea
alien_concept has already been awarded a star point for this post - ignoring quality request by EDD.
^ wtf? That was just an exception for blankfist??? Any day now I'm going DOS 1.0 on Siftbot's ass.
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
I love that this is in "Talks Talk" I have honestly never noticed that before.
Sifted (a long time ago) http://www.videosift.com/video/Futurama-The-Fall-of-Cyclopia
"How far away do you think it is..?"
This includes everything I need in a movie, explosions, sex, comedy and a one-eyed monster.
PQ'ed http://www.videosift.com/video/Loudon-Wainwright-III-I-m-Alright
I clean up my PQ regularly, so there's not much in there, but this one is a great tune. I've grown to like Loudon Wainwright's folky performance.
I was born on the boring side of the river... our favourite past time is suicide. the end
^Teehee, he said "one-eyed monster"!
Sifted: http://www.videosift.com/video/30-minutes-of-90s-cartoon-Openings Always takes me down memory lane.
Pqueued: http://www.videosift.com/video/Jet-Wings-Definitely-better-than-flying-commercial I just think this is really cool.
I just knew someone would grab onto my one-eyed monster.

^Teehee, he said "one-eyed monster"!
My fav sifted vid, which is a nice piece of history both from a "moving pictures" and sociological standpoint. And it's an awesome tune...
http://www.videosift.com/video/Black-Shadows-excerpt-from-Radio-Parade-1935-In-Color
My Pq only has two videos in there. They should probably both be there but of the two this one is slightly better because it has Nick Cave in it...
http://www.videosift.com/video/Nick-Cave-Saloon-Ballad-Singer
Great idea for a talk post, AC.
Glad you're enjoying it peeps, part two coming soon!
edit for a total rewrite, valid point the first time but in the wrong place. Sorry about that
More in the spirit of things...
http://talks.videosift.com/video/Cops-say-legalize-drugs-ask-them-why
That's probably the most important thread I ever posted or participated in here, it's a real uncomfortable subject for most people and one with a lot of misunderstandings about exactly what the goals and such are so although it didn't cover every detail it covered more than most ever see in our press and such.
Personal queue doesn't matter, just one vid there and that's a bit of fluff I just thought people would enjoy, it's not really important in any way.
Thanks for the post, AC. Here's mine, I think.
http://www.videosift.com/video/Marty-McConnell-Def-Poetry-Jam
Barely sifted, but my first intended sift and still a favorite whenever I need a wake-up call.
and in utter and stark contrast:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Panda-plays-fashion-police
In my PQ potentially because people think there is no shortage of panda vids, but alas, little do they realize this is an EVIL panda bear. Yes, there is such a thing.
yay, the pqueue vid i showed is now sifted with 15 votes, all thanks to this thread & alien_concept. ty!
sifted
http://www.videosift.com/video/Congo-soldiers-explain-why-they-rape
i think the reasoning behind alot of the world affairs things i sift is misinterpretted. what i think is interesting about this video is that it shows how a supersitious world view creates a culture of war and rape. to me it is not a commentary on how terrible these men are, or this country is or anything like that. my world affairs posts are mostly culturally relative.

http://www.videosift.com/video/Valentines-day-romance-special
this man is brilliant. an epic story teller. and an amazing poet. i appreciate everything about him. im wholly moved by his work. even the silly most seemingly assinine stories, you can feel the pain right below the surface, but its never the intent of the video to call attention to the pain. hes brilliant. i think the sift is not giving him nearly enough credit for how brilliant he is. a few friends have also called it to my attention that his stuff really is something you have to watch several times to catch how incredibly amazing it is. so go watch that video 8 times or so then tell me what you think.

http://www.videosift.com/video/Sports-of-the-World-Chinlone
A fun and, eventually, mesmerizing and spiritual game; I've actually met the filmmaker, who plays chinlone at the Grange Park here in Toronto. Here's there all the time; if you're in the city & want to give it a try, or get a ball of your own, he's happy to share with everyone the gift & bliss of this beautiful activity.

http://www.videosift.com/video/Why-Can-t-Hollywood-be-more-like-Picasso-Trigger
In the spirit of, and directed by the same guy that brought to us all "Hey Colleen, you've got a great ass", I was surprised that this didn't fare better.
eh... I don't think I get it. Could explain it again using smaller words? I'm not sure if I'm an oddbod or possibly a probie. What the hell AM I???? I don't even know for sure what I am. Where's the Prozac??
